Overview
The Pinterest Collages page on the Create site was designed to showcase how creators can use Pinterest to build and share personalized, engaging collages. The design, aimed at a Gen Z audience, incorporated neo-brutalism principles, using bold lines, colors, and striking visuals to create a dynamic, interactive experience that resonates with the aesthetic preferences of younger users.
The challenge
The challenge was to design a page that would appeal to Gen Z’s affinity for personalized, visually impactful content while maintaining ease of use and showcasing Pinterest's collage-building tools. The design needed to stand out and feel authentic to this audience, who value creativity, individuality, and modern aesthetics. Additionally, the page had to ensure both aesthetic appeal and functionality, driving user engagement while reflecting Pinterest’s brand.
The Solution
To connect with the Gen Z audience, the design embraced neo-brutalism, featuring bold lines, vibrant colors, and strong, graphic visuals. The layout was mobile-first, emphasizing quick, scrollable interaction with Pinterest’s collage tools. The use of large typography, oversized buttons, and unconventional grid layouts created an edgy, modern feel, while clear calls to action encouraged users to start creating. Neon accents and high-contrast colors enhanced the visual energy, drawing attention to key areas and encouraging exploration of the platform’s features.
Results
The neo-brutalist design effectively engaged Gen Z users, who responded positively to the bold, expressive visuals and interactive layout. Engagement metrics showed increased time spent on the page and higher rates of content creation using Pinterest’s collage tools. The page successfully fostered creativity and community, with feedback highlighting its appeal to younger users and its ability to deliver a visually captivating and functional experience.
